The Opportunity

This position works out of our Irving, TX location in the Core Diagnostics Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. The Buyer I is responsible for purchasing the services and supplies necessary for the organization's operations. They work independently, apply standards yet adapt precedents and may make departures from established processes to resolve problems. They will economically and efficiently purchase materials and services with the best combination of price, quality and services related to the end user's requirements.

What You’ll Work On

  • Conduct research on potential suppliers and vendors, promotions, and other industry trends as a source of accurate and up-to-date information for purchasing activities.

  • Enter data into databases or other computerized systems to maintain up-to-date supplier and vendor information, to track purchase and the status of orders and deliveries, and to generate purchasing reports and statistics.

  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of materials and goods supplied.

  • Follow-up the status of purchase orders with vendors to ensure timely delivery.

  • Communicate status of orders with internal customers.

  • Activities include sourcing, evaluating and selecting suppliers and vendors, negotiating supply contracts, and monitoring the quality and timeliness of materials and services supplied.

  • Individual contributor with comprehensive knowledge in the specific area. Ability to execute highly complex or specialized work. Knowledge acquired from several years of experience or specialist training in particular area.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a purchasing or other Supply Chain support role.

  • Must have good interpersonal skills to work with suppliers and customers in a polite and tactful, yet firm manner. Must have good organizational skills, experience with computerized ERP systems, and experience with word processing and spreadsheet programs. Must be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment to support internal and external customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • CPM designation with the NAPM (or similar), or a CPIM designation with APICS (or similar) are preferred.

The base pay for this position is $46,700.00 – $93,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
