Location: Remote, various locations throughout California

Salary Range: The beginning salary range for this position is Classified Range 20, $74,308.95 - $81,936.21.

Position Overview


Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Human Resources, independently performs a wide variety of complex, diverse, technical, and confidential analytical tasks in the development, operation and maintenance of the full range of functions in the Human Resources department of Calbright College. Assists in planning, and coordination of the operational and directive functions including but not limited to HR functional areas like recruitment, sourcing quality candidates, classification and compensation, leave of absence administration, payroll, performance evaluation, employee records and employee relations, provides support to benefits administration and other related work. This position will promote engagement and teamwork by jumping in where needed without hesitation.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed within the scope of work.


  • Support the day-to-day Human Resources operations including recruiting, onboarding, compensation changes, offboarding, reporting and other HR related functions as needed.
  • Take active part in the recruitment efforts of Calbright College. Full cycle recruitment for exempt and nonexempt staff. Recruitment activities include but not limited to: kick off meetings with hiring managers, sourcing candidates using an applicant tracking system in scheduling and conducting interviews, administering applicable skills tests, creating recruitment documentation, providing detailed feedback narratives from interviews, creating offer letters, conducting background checks, and ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures, and all relevant employment/labor laws.
  • Coordinates and supports Human Resources compliance reporting activities.
  • Coordinates and supports Onboarding activities by following the college’s Onboarding process.
  • Coordinates and supports Off boarding, by creating documentation and conducts exit interviews, recommends corrective action when necessary.
  • Create, update and maintain employee records, reports, and documentation in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Prepares, maintains and analyzes confidential records and other materials related to grievance or complaint processing.
  • Collaborate with payroll and ensure that employer contributions and payroll deductions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Leaves of absence administration.
  • Serves as back up on conducting benefits administrator duties, supporting the coordination and administration of open enrollment, and eligibility determination.
  • Serves as back up on COBRA administration.
  • Working on HR projects as part of the HR team’s efforts.
  • May serve as the Custodian of Records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

Minimum Qualifications


  • A Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of work experience directly related to Human resources, i.e., employee benefits, onboarding & offboarding, recruitment, payroll, or related fields.

Desired Qualifications


  • A Masters degree in Human Resources, Public Administration or related field. Experience in public education or public sector HR.


Working Conditions and Travel


  • Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college, and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.

  • Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
