Job Description
Under general supervision; conducts on-site inspections of moderately difficult sewer line, water main, water tower, treatment plant, and pump station construction and/or repair projects; assists in materials testing to ensure compliance to county and state specifications. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.

Completion of a high school level education, plus five (5) years of experience in underground construction work that included surveying, drafting or engineering technology work, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience. Must possess a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
Advance knowledge of inspection methods procedures; safety practices and procedures; surveying; construction methods and practices; construction materials testing procedures; department policy and procedures. Basic knowledge of logistics; read and interpret maps. Ability to apply construction principles to solve more complex problems; calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; work alone on most job assignments; demonstrate physical fitness; read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications; develop good rapport with contractors, officials, other inspectors and the general public; use common construction measuring devices; work in adverse weather conditions; communicate in written, oral and picture form; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; maintain accurate records.

Description of Job Duty
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.

Conducts on-site inspections of various construction projects (e.g. sewer lines, water lines, pump stations, water towers, and treatment plants, etc.); monitors projects to assure completion within established standards and specifications; checks line and grade of pipelines, payment and yard restoration, drainage, compaction, embankment construction etc.; assures completion of construction work, and certifies completion.

Prepares project inspection reports on a daily basis; maintains records on location of underground facilities (e.g. water lines, connection tie-ins, sewer lines and connection tie-ins, etc.); certification documents against in progress or completed projects.

Assists with the movement of construction equipment (e.g. checks for utility and road damage, private property damage and arranges for repairs; assists in the training of entry level employees.
